Press Release

"TAIYO SHEET Radiant Heating Method" Wins Japan Society of Civil Engineers Technology Development Award ~ Road surface frost prevention technology that fuses traditional Japanese papermaking techniques with carbon fiber ~

Taiyo Corporation (Head Office: Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture, Representative Director: Keisuke Abe) is pleased to announce that our developed "TAIYO SHEET Road Heating Method" has received the Technology Development Award from the Japan Society of Civil Engineers.

This award is presented to outstanding technologies that have been implemented in the civil engineering field, with a comprehensive evaluation of their innovativeness, effectiveness, and social contribution.

1. Reason for Award

This technology was highly praised for its road freezing prevention capabilities, which fuse Japanese paper making techniques with carbon fiber.

2. Implementation Track Record and Social Impact

Since its improved completion in 2020, this technology has been adopted in over 22 locations, including highways, national roads, and private facilities, in just five years, demonstrating remarkable effectiveness in preventing vehicle congestion in winter and stabilizing logistics.
In particular, maintaining traffic functions by suppressing snow-induced stuck vehicles during heavy snowfall greatly contributes to the continuation of the regional economy and social activities. Further widespread adoption is expected to contribute to the construction of robust road infrastructure against intensifying winter weather.

3. About TAIYO SHEET_RH

The radiant heating method developed by Taiyo Corporation uses a carbon Japanese paper electric heating sheet named "TAIYO SHEET_RH".

4. Technical Features

Short construction period, low cost

We achieved significant reductions in construction time and costs with a vertical insertion method that does not require pavement removal.

Retrofit installation

The sheet structure is only a few millimeters thick, so it can be installed without major modifications to the existing pavement.

■Increased efficiency through spot heating

By heating only the area where tires pass through with pinpoint accuracy, the system prevents road surface icing and snow accumulation while reducing energy consumption.

Taiyo Corporation Representative's Statement (Representative Director, Keisuke Abe)

We are deeply honored to have received the prestigious award of the Japan Society of Civil Engineers Technological Development Award this time. We interpret this award as a recognition of its value both domestically and internationally, following our previous receipt of an award at the World Road Congress (PIARC) in March 2026.
Furthermore, this technology is a “technology that emphasizes practical use” directly linked to solving on-site challenges, and it has been realized through the fusion of traditional Japanese techniques and cutting-edge materials.
Furthermore, the carbon Japanese paper heating sheets used in this technology can be manufactured by applying conventional papermaking and printing techniques. This demonstrates the potential for technologies from existing industries to contribute to society in new ways, even in an era of increasing paperlessness. The establishment of a supply system that leverages a stable production base is also one of the major strengths of this technology.
Moving forward, we will leverage this award as an opportunity to further advance and promote our technology, accelerate our global expansion, and provide new value to global infrastructure.
